Blacking out text with a highlighter tool in a PDF viewer usually only draws a black box on top of the text — the actual text is still there underneath, extractable by anyone who copies it or opens the file in another program, which has caused real, embarrassing data leaks. This tool performs genuine redaction: it permanently removes the underlying text and image data in the areas you mark, not just visually covers it, so redacted content can't be recovered by copy-pasting or re-extracting text from the file.
