  • Constant load: Assumes the appliance draws its full rated wattage continuously for the entire usage period, with no variation from cycling (e.g. thermostats, compressors).
  • Flat tariff: Uses a single flat rate per unit; it does not model slab-based/tiered electricity pricing or time-of-day tariffs.

About this calculator

An appliance's rated wattage on its nameplate tells you almost nothing about what it actually costs to run each month, since that depends on how many hours a day it's used, how many days it runs, and your local tariff, details most people never sit down to multiply out, so bills feel unpredictable until they arrive. This calculator takes the appliance's wattage, your daily usage hours, days of use per month, and your electricity rate per unit (kWh), and converts wattage to kilowatts before multiplying through to a monthly cost estimate. It's the calculation utilities themselves use to bill you, just run in reverse so you can budget ahead of time. Use it to compare running costs between appliances (an air conditioner versus a fan, for instance), decide whether upgrading to a more efficient model is worth it, or simply understand which device is driving up a surprising bill, without waiting a full billing cycle to find out.
