Time Card Calculator

Calculate total weekly hours and overtime from a 7-day timesheet.

Formula v1.0.0GlobalMethodologyReport an issuetime-card-v1
How this is calculated
Total hours = Σ daily net hours; Overtime = max(0, total − 40)

Assumptions used in this calculation

  • Overtime threshold: Hours beyond 40 per week are counted as overtime.

About this calculator

Totaling a week's worth of shift entries by hand, especially with different start times, end times and breaks each day, then working out whether any of that spills into overtime, is exactly the kind of repetitive multi-step arithmetic where a mistake on one day throws off the whole week. This calculator takes each day's shift as a start-end time range, sums the net hours worked across all seven days, and applies a 40-hour weekly overtime threshold to the total (not to any single day), splitting the result into regular and overtime hours. It's aimed at hourly employees and small business owners reconciling a weekly timesheet, where getting the regular/overtime split right directly affects a paycheck.

Worked example

5 days × 8 hours

Result: 40 hours, 0 overtime
