Employee Turnover Rate Calculator
Calculate your employee turnover rate for a given period.
About this calculator
HR teams need a consistent, comparable turnover figure to spot problem departments, benchmark against industry norms, or report to leadership, but the raw count of people who left doesn't mean much without being related to headcount size. This calculator divides the number of employees who left during a period by the average number of employees over that same period, then expresses it as a percentage, the standard way turnover rate is defined and compared across companies of different sizes. It's built for HR and people-ops teams tracking monthly, quarterly or annual attrition, or comparing turnover across departments or locations. Using average headcount rather than a single point-in-time count matters because it smooths out hiring and departures happening mid-period, a detail that's easy to skip when eyeballing the numbers but that changes the result meaningfully in a period with significant headcount change.
Worked example
6 left, 80 average employees
Result: 7.50%
