About this calculator
Since the new tax regime became the default, every salaried taxpayer effectively has to run two parallel tax calculations, one for each regime, to know which one leaves more money in their pocket, and the two use completely different slab structures, deduction rules and rebate thresholds, making manual comparison genuinely error-prone. This calculator takes your gross annual income and Section 80C/80D-style deductions and computes tax liability under both regimes side by side: applying each regime's slab rates to the appropriate taxable income (deductions reduce taxable income only under the old regime), then layering on the Section 87A rebate where applicable and the 4% health and education cess. The result shows both totals plus which regime saves you more, replacing a comparison most people either skip entirely or get wrong by hand, particularly around where the crossover point sits based on how much you actually claim in deductions.
Worked example
₹12,00,000 income, ₹1,50,000 deductions
Result: New regime tax ≈ ₹71,500; old regime tax ≈ ₹1,17,000, new regime recommended
