Formula v1.0.0GlobalMethodologyReport an issuedividend-yield-v1
How this is calculated
Dividend yield = Annual dividend per share ÷ Share price × 100

Assumptions used in this calculation

  • Dividend basis: Assumes the annual dividend per share you enter continues at the same rate, companies can raise, cut or skip dividends at any time.
  • Pre-tax figure: The annual dividend income shown is before tax, dividends are taxable in the hands of the shareholder at their applicable income tax slab rate.India

About this calculator

Dividend yield is quoted everywhere in stock screeners and financial news, but the number is easy to misread if you're not clear it's calculated against the current share price, not the price you originally paid, so the yield you see today can look very different from your own effective yield-on-cost. This calculator computes both the standard yield, Dividend yield = Annual dividend per share ÷ Share price × 100, and the total annual dividend income you'd actually receive based on how many shares you own. That distinction matters for two reasons: comparing yields across stocks requires using each one's current price, while judging your own income from a holding you bought years ago requires your original purchase price instead, and this calculator lets you separate the two by simply entering the price you want the yield measured against.

Worked example

₹20 dividend, ₹500 share price

Result: 4% yield, ₹2,000/year
