About this calculator

Force gets expressed in SI units like newtons in physics and engineering, but also in gravitational units like kilogram-force and pound-force that are common in everyday specs, like a torque wrench rating or a towing capacity, and mixing the two systems by hand risks confusing mass units with force units. This calculator converts a force value between newtons, kilonewtons, dynes, kilogram-force and pound-force by routing through a common base unit of newtons, using the standard gravity constant (9.80665 m/s²) where a gravitational unit is involved, so results stay exact rather than approximated. It's useful for engineering and physics calculations, interpreting equipment ratings quoted in kgf or lbf, or converting a scientific dyne measurement into a more familiar unit.

Worked example

1 kilogram-force to newtons

Result: 9.81 N
