Find the healthy weight range for your height and see how your current weight compares.

Formula v1.0.0GlobalMethodologyReport an issuehealthy-weight-v1
How this is calculated
Healthy weight range = BMI 18.5-24.9 × height², converted to weight

Assumptions used in this calculation

  • BMI-based range: Defines 'healthy' purely as the weight range corresponding to a BMI of 18.5-24.9, so it carries the same limitations as BMI itself and doesn't account for muscle mass, frame size, or body composition.

About this calculator

Knowing your BMI number is one thing, but translating that into an actual weight range you can aim for takes rearranging the BMI formula algebraically, most people never bother. This calculator does that step for you: enter your height and current weight, and it solves the BMI formula backward for the weight values that would put you at the boundaries of the normal range (BMI 18.5 and 24.9), giving you a concrete kilogram or pound range rather than an abstract index number. It then shows exactly how far your current weight sits above, below, or within that range. This is a different approach from the Ideal Weight calculator, which uses the height-only Devine formula developed for medical dosing, here the range is purely a reflection of the standard BMI categories, so it carries the same known limitation of not distinguishing muscle from fat. It's most useful as a plain-language translation of your BMI status into an actual number on a scale.

Worked example

170 cm height, 70 kg current weight

Result: Healthy range: 53.5-72 kg, within range
