About this calculator
The Kua number formula sums the last two digits of a birth year, reduces that to a single digit, and then applies an offset that differs by gender and, confusingly, by whether the birth year falls before or after 2000, a rule most people don't know exists and will miscalculate if they only apply the pre-2000 formula. This calculator takes a birth year and gender, applies the correct reduction and century-specific offset automatically, and returns both the Kua number and whether it places you in the East or West direction group. It's the standard starting point for personal Feng Shui direction guidance, used to orient a bed, desk or front door. Because the offset rule changes at the year 2000 boundary and differs for men and women, this is one of those small but easy-to-miss details that a calculator handles more reliably than trying to recall the exact rule from memory.
