About this calculator
When a group is splitting a restaurant bill evenly, working out the tip and then dividing the total among everyone at the table is exactly the kind of arithmetic people get wrong or avoid doing carefully, especially with an odd tip percentage or group size. This calculator takes the bill amount, tip percentage, and number of people, and applies per person = (bill × (1 + tip%)) ÷ number of people to compute the total bill, the tip amount, and both the total and tip owed by each person individually. Showing the tip and total breakdown separately, not just the final per-person figure, makes it easy to double-check the numbers or explain to the table exactly how much of what each person owes is tip versus the actual bill. Rather than passing a phone around to re-multiply and divide by hand, or rounding loosely at the table, this gives an instant, precise even split so no one over- or under-pays their share.
