About this calculator

Grocery shelves often display several package sizes of the same product at prices that don't obviously reveal which one is cheapest per unit, and mentally dividing several different price-quantity pairs while standing in an aisle is easy to get wrong or skip entirely. This calculator takes the price and quantity of 2 to 6 products, divides price by quantity for each to get a unit price, then ranks all of them to report which one is the best value and by how much more the others cost. It assumes every quantity is entered in the same unit of measure — you convert grams to ounces or vice versa beforehand if the packaging differs — since the calculator itself just divides the numbers you provide. Rather than doing the division repeatedly in your head or trusting a per-unit price the store may not even display, this gives an instant, accurate ranking so you can confidently pick the best-value option, without factoring in unrelated concerns like whether you'll actually use the larger size before it expires.

How to use this

Troubleshooting

• The comparison looks wrong.

  Both quantities need to be in the same unit (both grams, or both millilitres, or both count) for the comparison to be valid, convert one of them first if the packaging lists different units.

• Can I compare more than two products at once?

  This calculator compares two products directly. For more than two, compute each one's unit price (price ÷ quantity) separately and compare the numbers yourself.
