Baby Feeding Schedule Calculator

Get a general guide to daily feeds and amount per feed based on baby's age.

Formula v1.0.0GlobalMethodologyReport an issuebaby-feeding-schedule-v1
How this is calculated
Daily ounces ≈ 2.5 × Weight (lb), split across an age-typical number of feeds

Assumptions used in this calculation

  • General guidance only: This is a general, widely-cited rule of thumb for formula-fed babies, not medical advice, always follow your pediatrician's guidance, especially for breastfed babies where volume is harder to measure.

About this calculator

New parents are often unsure whether their baby is eating enough or too much, especially in the early months when feeding amounts change quickly and pediatrician visits are weeks apart. This calculator applies the widely cited formula-feeding guideline of about 2.5 ounces per pound of body weight per day, then splits that total across an age-typical number of feeds, since younger babies feed more frequently in smaller amounts while older babies consolidate into fewer, larger feeds. Enter your baby's age and weight to get a general daily ounce total and a typical feeds-per-day count, useful as a sanity check against what you're already doing rather than a rigid target. Because breastfed babies are demand-fed and their intake per session is much harder to measure directly, the volume guideline applies loosely there too, but your pediatrician's guidance should always take priority over any generic calculator, especially for growth concerns.

Worked example

2-month-old, 5 kg (≈11 lb)

Result: ≈ 27.5 oz/day across 6-8 feeds
