BMR Calculator
Calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate, the calories your body burns at rest.
About this calculator
Your body burns calories even doing nothing, breathing, circulating blood, maintaining organ function, and that resting energy expenditure is the foundation any calorie or diet plan should be built on, yet it's not something you can feel or estimate intuitively. This calculator computes Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, generally considered the most accurate widely-used formula for general populations, ahead of the older Harris-Benedict method. Enter your gender, age, weight and height, and it applies the formula (10×weight in kg + 6.25×height in cm − 5×age, plus a gender-specific offset) to return your estimated daily resting calorie burn. This number on its own isn't your full daily calorie need, that requires layering on an activity multiplier, which is what the separate TDEE calculator does, but BMR is the base every calorie target starts from, and getting it right by hand means correctly applying several weighted terms rather than a single simple multiplication.
Worked example
30-year-old male, 70kg, 170cm
Result: BMR ≈ 1,649 kcal/day
