About this calculator
Body surface area is a clinical measurement most people never need to calculate themselves, but it comes up when trying to understand medication dosing, burn assessments, or other clinical figures that reference it, and the formula behind it, a square root of a product divided by a constant, isn't something to eyeball. This calculator uses the Mosteller formula, the version most commonly used in practice for its balance of simplicity and accuracy: BSA (in square meters) equals the square root of height in centimeters multiplied by weight in kilograms, divided by 3600. Enter your height and weight and it returns your BSA instantly. BSA is preferred over weight alone in many clinical dosing contexts because it correlates more closely with metabolic rate, cardiac output and blood volume.
