About this calculator
Ordering masonry units without accounting for mortar joints reliably under-counts a job, because the joint thickness added around every single brick or block adds up to a meaningful amount of extra wall area across a full course. This calculator divides a wall's total area by the effective footprint of one unit, its actual length and height plus the mortar joint added to each dimension, and then applies a waste allowance for cuts and breakage to give a realistic units-needed figure for bricks or concrete blocks alike. Enter wall area and unit length, and it returns a ready-to-order count instead of you multiplying joint thickness into two dimensions and dividing by hand.
