Construction Cost Calculator
Estimate construction cost from built-up area and rate per square foot.
Assumptions used in this calculation
- Cost breakdown: Materials ~60%, labour ~30%, other (design/approvals/contingency) ~10%, a typical approximation, not a quote.effective 2026-01-01
About this calculator
Contractors and builders quote construction cost in wildly different ways, some by built-up area, some by plot area, some with a lump sum that hides what's actually driving the price, making it hard for a first-time builder to sanity-check a quote or plan a budget. This calculator multiplies your built-up area by a per-square-foot rate to get a total estimated cost, then splits that total into a materials, labour and other (design, approvals, contingency) breakdown using a commonly cited 60/30/10 split for Indian residential construction. Enter just two numbers, area and rate, and see both the bottom-line figure and roughly where the money goes, which is far faster than re-deriving a budget from scratch or trusting a contractor's number blind. It won't replace a detailed bill of quantities, but it gives you a reasonable ballpark to compare against quotes before committing.
Worked example
1,500 sqft at ₹2,000/sqft
Result: Total ≈ ₹30,00,000
How to use this
- 1Enter the built-up area you're constructing.
- 2Select a construction quality/finish level.
- 3Read the estimated total cost, broken down by major cost heads.
Troubleshooting
The estimate doesn't match a contractor's quote.
Construction costs vary heavily by city, material prices and labor rates, treat this as a starting ballpark, not a final budget.
