About this calculator

College applications and scholarship forms often ask for a percentile rather than a raw class rank, but converting 'ranked 15th out of 200' into a percentile isn't obvious without knowing the right formula, and getting it wrong can misrepresent how competitive your academic standing actually looks on an application. This calculator applies the standard percentile formula, subtracting one from your rank, dividing by class size, subtracting that fraction from one, and multiplying by 100, so rank 1 lands just below the 100th percentile and rank equal to class size lands near the bottom. It removes any doubt about which direction the calculation goes or whether to use rank or rank-minus-one in the numerator, both easy places to make an off-by-one error, giving you an accurate percentile figure to report on applications or forms that ask for it instead of your raw rank number.

Worked example

Rank 15 of 200

Result: 93.0th percentile
