FIRE Calculator
Calculate your Financial Independence, Retire Early (FIRE) number and timeline.
Assumptions used in this calculation
- 4% rule: The 4% safe withdrawal rate is a widely cited historical rule of thumb, not a guarantee of future portfolio performance.
About this calculator
The FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) movement centers on one target number, the invested corpus large enough that a small, sustainable annual withdrawal covers your living expenses indefinitely, but arriving at that number and the years needed to reach it involves two separate calculations: sizing the target from your expenses and safe withdrawal rate, then simulating monthly growth of your current investments and contributions until they hit it. This calculator computes your FIRE number as annual expenses divided by your chosen safe withdrawal rate (the 25x-expenses figure at the common 4% default comes directly from this), then simulates your current investments plus monthly contributions compounding at your expected return to find how many years it takes to reach that number. It replaces the generic '25x expenses' rule of thumb with a number and timeline tailored to your actual expenses, savings rate and return assumptions.
Worked example
₹6,00,000/year at 4% withdrawal
Result: ₹1.5 crore FIRE number, ~12.25 years
