Firewood Volume Calculator
Convert a stacked firewood pile's dimensions into cords.
About this calculator
Firewood is bought and sold by the cord, but a stacked pile of logs doesn't come pre-labeled with its volume, so buyers and sellers both need a way to convert a pile's physical dimensions into a comparable cord figure, useful for checking whether a delivery matches what was paid for. This calculator takes a stack's length, height and depth (log length) in feet, multiplies the three together for total cubic feet, then divides by 128, the standard cubic footage of a full cord (a stack measuring 4 × 4 × 8 feet). Estimating cords by eye is notoriously unreliable and a common source of disputes between buyers and sellers. Measuring the actual stack dimensions and running them through this formula gives an objective, verifiable cord count you can use to confirm a delivery or price a sale fairly.
Worked example
8×4×4 ft stack
Result: 1.00 cord
