About this calculator

The adoption fee is often the smallest part of a new pet's real first-year cost, and many new owners are caught off guard by how much one-time setup items, monthly food and supplies, and initial vet visits add up to once you total everything. This calculator adds your adoption fee, one-time supply costs like a bed, crate, and leash, monthly food and care costs multiplied out across all twelve months, and expected first-year vet costs such as vaccinations and checkups into a single first-year total. It's simple addition once you have the four numbers, but gathering and summing them yourself means tracking receipts and estimates across categories that are easy to forget individually, this puts them side by side so you can see where the money actually goes and budget realistically before bringing a new pet home, keeping in mind it excludes unplanned emergency vet costs.

Worked example

$100 fee, $200 supplies, $60/mo, $300 vet

Result: $1,320.00
