Speed, Distance & Time Calculator

Find speed, distance or time when you know the other two.

Formula v1.0.0GlobalMethodologyReport an issuespeed-distance-time-v1
How this is calculated
Distance = Speed × Time

Assumptions used in this calculation

  • Units: Uses kilometres, hours and km/h; convert first if you have different units.

About this calculator

Working out speed, distance or time by hand means rearranging the same equation three different ways and keeping units straight, an easy place to make an arithmetic slip, especially under time pressure like estimating an ETA mid-drive. This calculator uses the single relationship distance = speed × time and solves for whichever of the three values you leave blank, so you can enter distance and time to get average speed, distance and speed to get time, or speed and time to get distance. It's built for quick, everyday questions: how long a 300 km drive will take at a given average speed, what average pace covered a known distance in a known time, or how far you'd travel at a steady speed over a set duration. Because it does the algebra and keeps the relationship consistent, you avoid the common error of dividing the wrong two numbers or forgetting to convert minutes to hours.

Worked example

120 km in 2 hours

Result: Speed = 60 km/h
