Vehicle Running Cost Calculator

Estimate the total annual cost of running a vehicle, including fuel, maintenance and insurance.

Formula v1.0.0India, GlobalMethodologyReport an issuevehicle-running-cost-v1
How this is calculated
Total annual cost = Fuel cost + Maintenance + Insurance

Assumptions used in this calculation

  • No depreciation or financing: Only fuel, maintenance and insurance are included; vehicle depreciation, loan EMI/interest and road tax are not factored into the total.
  • Flat annual maintenance and mileage: Assumes maintenance cost and fuel efficiency stay constant through the year; older vehicles often see mileage drop and maintenance rise over time.

About this calculator

Most people budget for a car by thinking about fuel and maybe the EMI, overlooking maintenance and insurance until a bill arrives, which makes the real annual cost of ownership hard to see clearly. This calculator combines the three main recurring costs: fuel cost (derived from your annual distance driven, fuel efficiency and fuel price), annual maintenance, and annual insurance premium, and adds them into one total annual running cost figure. It's useful for comparing two vehicles you're considering buying, deciding whether a longer commute is financially worth it, or simply understanding where your car-related spending actually goes each year. Working this out manually means juggling several separate calculations and remembering to add them all together, this calculator keeps fuel cost, maintenance and insurance in one place so you get a single, comparable annual figure instead of a scattered set of numbers.

Worked example

15,000 km/year at 15 km/l

Result: ₹1,25,000/year
