Taxi Fare Calculator

Estimate a taxi or cab fare from base fare, distance, time and surge pricing.

Formula v1.0.0India, GlobalMethodologyReport an issuetaxi-fare-v1
How this is calculated
Total fare = (Base fare + Distance × rate/km + Duration × rate/min) × Surge multiplier

Assumptions used in this calculation

  • Simplified fare model: Uses a base fare plus linear per-km and per-minute rates with a single surge multiplier; it doesn't model tiered distance slabs, waiting-time charges, tolls or platform-specific minimum fares.
  • No local regulation or convenience fees: City-specific regulated fare caps, night charges, GST or convenience fees added by ride-hailing platforms are not included.

About this calculator

Ride-hailing fares combine several components, a base fare, a per-km rate, a per-minute rate and sometimes a surge multiplier, that are tedious to add up by hand and easy to get wrong when comparing quotes or budgeting a trip in advance. This calculator takes those four inputs plus your estimated distance and trip duration, applies the formula (Base fare + Distance × rate/km + Duration × rate/min) × Surge multiplier, and returns the total estimated fare. It's useful for sanity-checking a fare shown in an app before booking, budgeting a cab trip when you know the local rate structure, or comparing how different surge levels affect the final price. Rather than mentally multiplying and adding several numbers, especially with a decimal surge multiplier thrown in, this calculator gives an instant, accurate estimate you can adjust input by input.

Worked example

10 km, 20 min, 1.5x surge

Result: ₹315
