About this calculator

Swim workouts and race times are almost always compared using pace per 100m or 100yd rather than total time, since sets and distances vary so much between a 200m warm-up and a 1500m open-water swim, but converting a total swim time into that standardized pace means dividing by an awkward fraction that's easy to fumble on deck. This calculator takes the total distance you swam and the total time it took, then divides to give you pace per 100 units directly, so you can compare today's set to last week's, check it against a training plan's target pace, or gauge your open-water swim against pool times. Doing this by hand between sets, especially converting minutes and seconds into a clean per-100 figure, is exactly the kind of arithmetic that's simple in principle but easy to get wrong when you're tired and short on time between reps.

Worked example

1500m in 30:00

Result: 2:00/100m
