About this calculator
Natural stone slabs like marble and granite come with distinctive veining that needs to be matched across a large floor or countertop, which produces more cutting waste than a uniform material like tile, and ordering exactly the raw surface area alone reliably leaves a job short. This calculator adds a wastage and cutting allowance percentage to your surface area to find the total slab area you actually need to order, then multiplies that inflated area by a cost-per-square-foot rate to give total material cost in one figure. Enter your surface area, an appropriate wastage percentage and the rate quoted by your supplier, and get both the order quantity and the total cost together instead of computing wastage and pricing as two separate steps. Because natural stone slabs often need to be matched for veining and grain direction across a room, complex layouts or bold-veined stone should use a higher wastage allowance than the 10% default meant for a straightforward rectangular area.
Worked example
500 sqft at 10% wastage, ₹150/sqft
Result: Total slab area = 550 sqft, cost ≈ ₹82,500
