Body Frame Size Calculator

Determine your body frame size (small, medium, large) from height and wrist size.

Formula v1.0.0GlobalMethodologyReport an issuebody-frame-size-v1
How this is calculated
Ratio = Height ÷ Wrist circumference (both in inches); classified by gender-specific thresholds

Assumptions used in this calculation

  • Ratio method: Uses the commonly cited height ÷ wrist-circumference ratio method. Other frame-size methods, such as elbow breadth, can produce a slightly different classification.

About this calculator

Body frame size, whether someone has a naturally small, medium or large bone structure, affects what a healthy weight range actually looks like for that person, but it isn't something you can judge accurately just by looking in a mirror, since it depends on the relationship between height and wrist circumference rather than overall body size. This calculator takes height, wrist circumference and gender, and computes the ratio of height to wrist circumference (both in inches), then classifies the result as small, medium or large frame against gender-specific thresholds, since typical bone structure and wrist-to-height proportions differ between men and women. It gives a quick, standardized answer instead of a subjective guess, which is useful context alongside BMI or ideal-weight calculators, since two people with the same height and weight but different frame sizes can have very different amounts of muscle and bone versus fat.

Worked example

68in height, 6.5in wrist, male

Result: Small frame
