What's the difference between adding and removing VAT?

Adding VAT calculates the gross (VAT-inclusive) amount from a net figure: Gross = Net × (1 + VAT%). Removing VAT does the reverse, backing the net amount out of a gross figure that already includes VAT: Net = Gross ÷ (1 + VAT%).
