About this calculator
International shipping invoices frequently come in higher than expected because carriers don't just bill by scale weight, a large but light package can be charged based on the space it occupies instead, catching many shippers off guard. This calculator takes a package's actual weight, its length, width and height, and a rate per kilogram, then computes the volumetric (dimensional) weight as (L × W × H) ÷ 5000 and compares it against the actual weight, applying the rate to whichever figure is larger to produce the total estimated cost. Working this out manually means remembering the correct volumetric divisor, computing the box's volume correctly, and comparing two weights before multiplying by the rate, easy to skip a step and underestimate the bill. The calculator applies the standard air-freight formula automatically, giving a realistic cost estimate before you commit to a shipment or compare it against a domestic alternative.
